SemiNex Names Gyo Shinozaki CSO to Drive Optical AI Data Center Innovation

SemiNex Corporation, a leading U.S. supplier of high-performance indium phosphide (InP) semiconductor lasers and optical amplifiers, today announced the appointment of Gyo Shinozaki as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the global data center industry as artificial intelligence drives a fundamental architectural shift from electrical signaling over copper to optical transmission powered by advanced photonics.

Mr. Shinozaki brings decades of executive leadership across the global photonics and optical communications industry, with a proven record of scaling businesses at the forefront of optical source and amplifier innovation. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Ortel, a Photonics Foundries Enterprise, where he expanded the company’s leadership in high-performance optical sources and amplifiers for advanced communications and sensing applications. Prior to Ortel, Mr. Shinozaki was General Manager of EMCORE Corporation’s Broadband Division, overseeing established portfolios of optical components serving telecom, cable, and data communications markets worldwide.

Across his career, Gyo has held senior roles spanning photonics manufacturing, product strategy, and market development, earning recognition as a system-level authority on optical technologies and the ecosystems that bring them to scale. His appointment underscores SemiNex’s strategic focus on the next phase of data center evolution, where optical interconnects and the InP lasers that enable them are rapidly becoming system-defining technologies.

As AI workloads scale, data center performance is increasingly constrained by bandwidth density, power efficiency, and thermal limits that electrical interconnects can no longer meet. These pressures are elevating high-power, energy-efficient InP lasers and semiconductor optical amplifiers from discrete components to critical enablers of both scale-up and scale-out architectures. Shinozaki’s appointment reinforces the company’s role as a key U.S. supplier of the optical technologies powering the AI era.

“AI is driving a structural shift in how data centers are built, and that shift is fundamentally optical,” said Gyo Shinozaki, Chief Strategy Officer at SemiNex. “SemiNex’s technology is enabling the next generation of light sources and optical amplifiers required to scale bandwidth, improve energy efficiency, and support the rapid expansion of AI computing.”
